Meet our Art Director, Jon Wooten!
With a degree in illustration from Pratt Institute in Manhattan and extended education in graphics and design at the Rhode Island School of Design, his mediums include pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, oil, wood carving, sculpting, and airbrush. Jon has been our Lead Art Director for nearly 10 years and prior to his time here, he was the owner and operator of Air Dynamics where he received his first commissioned works.
Jon has designed and produced wall murals, landscapes, portraits, and graphic signs on various surfaces for public and private businesses since 1992. He’s written in-depth articles instructing art enthusiasts, step-by-step, how to paint on a variety of surfaces for Airbrush Action, Airbrush Art + Action, and Airbrush Art. He received several National and International Awards for Airbrush Excellence in Design and Artwork between 1995 and 2000.
Some of his earlier commissioned works include the 2002 USA Women’s Olympic Bobsled Team helmets and pieces presented to artists such as Josh Groban, Kelly Clarkson, and Jeff Dunham by the City of Norfolk from 2005 to 2007. Most recently he has designed and painted helmets for the USA Olympic Luge Team from 2004 to present day as well as being asked in 2020 to create and paint the sign for their new training facility in Lake Placid, New York.
Here at Big Top, he’s our creative genius, using a variety of tools and multiple mediums to create facades including backdrops and three-dimensional props used for our special events, weddings, corporate theme parties, and office spaces. His talent goes beyond bringing a photo to life when he takes the smallest concept and walks it from napkin design and refinement to production and final presentation. We consider ourselves pretty blessed to have such a talented artist on our team!
